2 killed in Centre Township house fire

An early morning fire claimed the lives of two people in their Centre Township home on June 6.

Members of State Police Hamburg and Troop L Fire Marshal Unit are investigating the structure fire at 123 Shamrock Avenue, Centre Township.

At 1:43 a.m., fire crews responded to a report of a residential structure fire in Irish Creek Village, Centre Township.

Valedictorian tells Fleetwood grads, 'Stay true to yourself'

Kutztown University’s Keystone Hall was filled with friends and family on June 5 for Fleetwood Area High School’s commencement.

For the first time, all 198 graduating seniors wore red gowns. Previously, Fleetwood girls wore white gowns and the boys, red.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence for classmate, Kiley Steward who passed away August 28, 2016.

Shoey Parade 'Makes a Splash'

“Let’s Make a Splash” was the theme of the 67th annual Shoemakersville’s Children’s Fair and Parade on June 2. The theme was chosen to honor the 50th anniversary of the community’s swimming pool, which recently underwent construction and opened in time for the summer season. This year’s grand marshal was Pool Supervisor Amy Botwright.

Hamburg Area Education Foundation presents grants for exploring innovation

The Hamburg Area Education Foundation presented grants totaling $7,582 to students and educators on June 4 during the Hamburg Area School District school director’s meeting.
