Kutztown Community Threads quilts community memories, takes donations of materials to create quilt

Community Threads is seeking participants to join their community quilting group. They are also looking for donations from the community.

Community Threads is a group that has been meeting at the Kutztown Community Library since January 2018. The goal is to create a 78″x 80″ quilted collaborative art piece using fabric and buttons donated by the people of the community.

Rep. Dent resigns from Congress

Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) announced on April 17 his intention to resign from Congress in May.

“After discussions with my family and careful reflection, I have decided to leave Congress in the coming weeks. Serving the people of the 15th Congressional district has been a tremendous responsibility and the privilege of a lifetime, and I am honored by the trust that so many of my constituents placed in me to represent them in Washington.

Visually impaired students scuba dive for first time

As a way of giving back to the community, The Heritage of Green Hills, Shillington, hosted a scuba diving class at its indoor pool for youth from VisionCorps, a Lancaster-based non-profit organization that empowers people who are blind or vision impaired to attain independence.

With the help of Adaptive Diving Association, the visually impaired youth, ages 10 to 13, scuba dive for the first time on April 14.

Jenna Reed of Fleetwood awarded national speech-language scholarship

Jenna Reed of Fleetwood has been named one of National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s first undergraduate scholarship recipients.

The award from the national organization will help offset the cost of Reed’s education in the five-year speech-language pathology program at Misericordia University.
