Local runner from Narvon wins Garden Spot Village Half Marathon

Jeremy Dovin, 14, of Narvon, finished first in the Garden Spot Village Half Marathon on Saturday, April 14, with a time of 1:20:18. This was Jeremy’s second win at Garden Spot Village. He won 3rd place in 2017 with a time of 1:23:11. He returned this year, determined to beat his previous time and take first place.

Community Homeschool Players, Morgantown performs 'Cinderella' May 4 and 5

Community Homeschool Players will perform “Cinderella” on May 4 and 5 at Conestoga Mennonite Church in Morgantown.

A group of home-schooled theater enthusiasts from the Community Homeschoolers’ Learning Group in Morgantown, has been in existence since 2003 with many productions.

“This year proves to be hilarious with Cinderella written by Sally Netzel published by Dramatic Publishing Co.

Chester County farm planting project for the hungry – volunteers needed

The Knights of Columbus and St. Elizabeth’s parish are hosting a farm project to help feed the hungry of Chester County on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Knights are looking for volunteers to plant potatoes. Last year families, friends and many members of the community helped to harvest 1,800 pounds of potatoes in the fall, but it all starts with the spring planting.

Police commissioner apologizes to men arrested in Philadelphia Starbucks

The commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department has apologized to the two men arrested in a Center City Starbucks last week, and said he “failed miserably” in his messaging after the incident.

Chester County resident honored with Lifetime Conservation Leadership Award

The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association (PALTA) recently honored D. Andrew “Andy” Pitz with the Lifetime Conservation Leadership Award. Pitz received the award at the annual Pennsylvania Land Conservation Conference, held this year at The Desmond in Chester County.

A key leader and thinker within the conservation community, Pitz has spent his entire professional career working to permanently protect Pennsylvania’s natural resources.

Shoey Pool renovation on track for May opening

Construction equipment has been the norm at the Shoemakersville Swimming Pool, 1003 Main Street, for over six months. Pool Supervisor Amy Botwright said as of April 16 the $620,000 renovation project is on schedule and the Shoey pool will open on time for the summer season.

The footprint of the 250,000-gallon pool is the same, but the structure will have fresh concrete throughout, new coping stones along the edges and replaced sidewalks around the water.

Berks County Outdoor Sports Person of the Year awarded for clean up efforts at Kaercher Creek

Tilden Township resident Tim Mazaika hauled his mower to the banks of Kaercher Creek four years ago with a simple motive: clearing fishing spots at the popular location east of Hamburg.

For his continued work clearing banks and pathways, along with efforts to recruit volunteers to do the same, Mazaika was named the 2018 Berks County Outdoor Sports Person of the Year.

Library Peep Show showcases all things chicken at Bethel-Tulpehocken Public Library

Are you a fan of chick lit? Was the chicken in Moana your favorite character? If Chicken Little saw our library, would he say ‘the sky is falling’? The Bethel-Tulpehocken Public Library invites you to stop in between April 25 and May 25 to take a ‘peep’ at our expansion plans. And to celebrate Peep Show month, the library will be showcasing all things chicken!

Thanks to the generosity of Conrad Weiser Middle School, and the use of an incubator, we will be hatching over a dozen chicken eggs, starting the kick-off of our expansion plans.
