A Reading couple have been arrested and charged with running a drug operation that sold cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, marijuana and other illegal drugs.
Virginia Clemons, 45, of the 200 block of Moss Street and Albert Dunn, 39, of the 200 block of South Third Street have each been charged with manufacturing, delivering or possessing with the intent to deliver drugs; possessing drugs; possessing drug paraphernalia; and three counts of conspiracy.
Each was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Kim Bagenstose and committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $300,000 bail.
According to police:
Police on Tuesday obtained two search warrants from District Judge Priscilla Campos related to an ongoing investigation into Dunn and Clemons, who were believed to be trafficking illegal drugs.
City police, state police and officers from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on Thursday set up surveillance on both suspects’ homes.
Dunn was seen leaving the South Third Street home and walking toward Penn Street, where he got into a taxi. Police followed and saw Dunn exiting the cab near Fourth and Washington streets and conducting a hand-to-hand transaction with another man.
Dunn later was seen getting into the back of an SUV, which was subsequently pulled over by police.
The driver and another passenger in the SUV cooperated with police, identifying Dunn as a drug dealer.
After taking Dunn into custody, police searched his home and the home of Clemons, identified as his girlfriend.
In the Moss Street home, police found:
• Bulk cocaine powder and cocaine powder packaged for sale.
• Bulk crack cocaine and crack cocaine packaged for sale.
• Bulk methamphetamines and methamphetamines packaged for sale.
• Fentanyl pills.
• One hundred baggies filled with heroin and fentanyl.
• About 45 ecstasy pills.
• About 385 grams of marijuana.
• Other items related to the drug trade, including a digital scale, about $1,350 and several cellphones.
A street value of the drugs seized was unavailable.
