The Adalyn Rose Foundation (ARF), a Reading-based nonprofit organization, held its first annual Duck Derby fundraiser over the weekend at Muhlenberg Township’s RiverFest. With support from presenting sponsors Diamond Credit Union and Redner’s Markets, $40,000 was raised for the foundation.
The Derby took place at Jim Dietrich Park on Sunday, Aug. 25, the final day of Muhlenberg Township’s Annual RiverFest. Over 2,400 ducks were entered and raced down the Schuylkill River. Ten winners were announced after the race, all receiving cash prizes and gift cards. “This event was so much fun and a true community effort which not only raised funds for our organization but also raised awareness around baby and child loss,” stated the organization’s founder and Executive Director, Chloe Ciferri.
The $40,000 raised will be used to support the nonprofit’s mission of providing comprehensive and continuous care to families grieving the loss of a baby during pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood. One of the programs that will be supported through this successful fundraiser is Adalyn’s Memorial Assistance Program, which provides funding for funeral expenses. The foundation hopes that this allows parents to focus on grieving and healing instead of worrying about paying for funeral costs. The Memorial Assistance Program has donated $130,000 for memorial expenses to date.
