Ahead of Super Bowl, Berks police remind partiers to drive sober

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is teaming with Berks County police to remind football fans to plan for a designated driver when the Super Bowl is over.

A press release from Exeter Township police asks party planners to ensure that drinkers pace themselves, and that designated drivers remain sober.

The release reminds hosts to be wary of underage drinking. If an underage person drinks and drives, the person who provided the alcohol can be held liable for any damage, injury or death caused by the underage driver.

If drivers are impaired by any substance — alcohol or other drugs — they should not get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

The release offers the following advice:

If available, use your community’s sober ride program or Uber or Lyft.

If you see a drunk driver on the road, call 911.
