Beer festival to show off local breweries and new brews

A new beer festival is coming just in time to make Fall something to remember.

New Ridge Brewing Co. will be hosting Roxborough’s first beer festival with the debut of Taps Under the Towers, Sept. 23. The festival will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. right outside of New Ridge Brewing in Roxborough Pocket Park and will benefit Friends of the Wissahickon.

“Taps Under the Towers is a beer fest that we have wanted to do since we opened, a little over three years ago,” said Eric Endrikat, co-owner of New Ridge Brewing. “We just wanted a good day for the neighborhood, filled with a bunch of amazing beers from our friends’ breweries. This is the first beer fest in Roxborough, and we’re really excited to be the ones to bring it here.”

The event will feature unlimited beer samples from 20 local breweries, including Attic Brewing Co., Boardroom Spirits, Brewery ARS, Brewery Techne, Carbon Copy, Chestnut Hill Brewing Co., Dock Street Brewery, Human Robot, Iron Hill Brewery, Kings Road Brewing, Love City Brewing, Other Half, Punch Buggy Brewing, Sacred Vice Brewing Co., Two Locals Brewing, Wissahickon Brewing Co., Wrong Crowd Beer and more.

Taps Under the Towers will include a whole pig roast from Green Meadow Farm and other foods, including vegetarian options as well. Music will be provided by Mitchell Street Phillbillies.

Tickets are $60 and include a 5-ounce tasting glass for unlimited pours. This event is 21 and older only, with identification. Tickets are on sale at https://www.newridgebrew.com/events.

Mitchelle Street Phillbillies are a local Roxborough band that blends rock, folk, and traditional music, among other genres, to produce an eclectic sound.

Influenced by Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen, the Phillbillies strive to honor great music in their covers. Comprised of Keegan Trainor on bass and guitar, Kevin McAnally on mandolin and guitar, Jonah Nichols also on bass and guitar, Mike Sharkansky on Drums, banjo, and accordion, and Haley Trainor on vocals, they are a versatile act of multi-instrumentalists that is sure to entertain.

Later this fall, the streets of Roxborough will also be alive with music as Roxtoberfest returns to celebrate its 11-year legacy as a cherished Roxborough fall tradition.

This street festival will take place Oct. 7 from noon to 6 p.m., with an Oct. 8 rain date, with the traditional feel of a German beer fest, including performances by an Oktoberfest band, the dazzling spectacle of circus performers, spirited competitions, an enticing array of food trucks, plenty of beverages fit for a fall fest, and fun activities to delight our youngest attendees.

While festively walking along Ridge Avenue from Lyceum to Leverington Avenue you’ll enjoy shopping over 60 unique crafters and get to know local community organizations.
