Many Berks high school athletes have decided where they will continue their academic and athletic careers in college, ranging from Lehigh University in Bethlehem to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Here are some of their choices.
Evelyn Melograna, Wilson, field hockey
2024 Stats: 12 goals and 10 assists
School: Lehigh University
What influenced the decision? “The first time I visited campus I knew Lehigh was the school for me. The program offers a balance of excellence both on the field and in the classroom, which I hold in the highest regard. This balance is accompanied by a team culture resembling that of a family I instantly wanted to be a part of. I am extremely excited about my decision. Committing to a college is a big choice, but I find safety in the Mountain Hawk community I will be joining next fall. The opportunity outweighs any nerves I might have.”
Goals: “Entering my freshman year, I only have one goal. And that is to make a positive impact on LUFH in whatever way I can.”
Garrett Hyneman, Gov. Mifflin, cross country
2024 Stats: Placed 8th (15:53.2) in the District III 3A championships

What influenced the decision? “I chose Lehigh because of its phenomenal athletic and academic balance. Upon having an official recruiting visit and getting to meet my future teammates, I am amazed by how supportive everyone is. Three-quarters of the team shares my major and I’ll be the fifth Eagle Scout on the team. I am extremely excited about my decision. Lehigh is an hour away and now I’ll be able to visit family more frequently.”
Goals: “I plan to have concentration in sustainability and the environment. My goal is to further green energy advancements. I look forward to continue making a difference in my community.”
Lydia Drago, Gov. Mifflin, cross country
