Berks baseball: Gov. Mifflin falls in nine innings to Hempfield

Hempfield defeated Gov Mifflin 3-2 in nine innings in a game of unbeaten teams in a non-league high school baseball game Friday.

The game was scoreless until the 9 inning, when with 2 outs, Brayden Hostetter and Josh Toole both walked and then Camden Hulock hit a 3-run home run for Hempfield.

In the bottom of the 9th, with one out, Gov. Mifflin’s Jaden Smith reached first on a wild pitch strikeout. Bryce Detwiler then singled.

After Branson Adams walked to load the bases, Travis Jenkins had a run-scoring groundout to cut the deficit to 3-1. Ethan Grim was intentionally walked to load the bases again and then Matt Koehler walked to make it 3-2. Cam Zurawski struck out to end the game.

Grim pitched 7 innings, allowing only one hit with 14 strikeouts. Hempfield pitcher Brody Gebhard went 6 innings, allowing 3 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Detwiler was 3 for 5 with a run scored.

Gov Mifflin left 13 on base.

Gov. Mifflin is 16-1. Hempfield is 14-0.

Fleetwood 7, Kutztown 1

Wylie Loy went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI as Fleetwood defeated Kutztown 7-1 in high school baseball on Friday.

Brayden Sobjak went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Tyler Dilbeck was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 3 hits and one earned run.

Ashton Hartkopf pitched the seventh, striking out all three batters he faced.

Oley Valley 9, Schuylkill Haven 7

Nick DeBalko knocked in 3 runs and Danny Fries went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI as Oley Valley defeated Schuylkill Valley 9-7 on Friday night.
