Berks basketball: Berks Catholic boys rally for a signature win

Berks Catholic erupted for 23 third-quarter points en route to a 62-59 win over Reading High in boys basketball on Monday night.

Trailing 26-21 at halftime, the Saints got hot in the third quarter and outscored the Red Knights 23-9 to take a 44-35 lead after three quarters.

Kingston McKoy had 12 points in the third quarter and Zach Suski added eight. Gavin Welker, who had a game-high 19 points, had the Saints’ other three points in the quarter.

Welker made five three-points shot in the game, including four in the second quarter.

The Saints (14-3) made 10 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter, including 4 for 4 from Jackson Kozik, who had eight points in the quarter.

Suski finished with 16 points, McKoy 14 and Kozik 10.

For the Red Knights, Khalil Samuel had 17 points, Jostin DeCastro 12 and Weshly Rosario 11.

Berks Catholic is the top ranked team in the District 3 Class 4A power rankings.

Exeter 79, Conrad Weiser 62

Aidan Dauble scored 20 points and Wesley Murray added 17 to lead Exeter to a 79-62 win over Conrad Weiser on Monday.

Also for the Eagles, Jayden Ware scored 13 points and Carter Redding had 11.

For the Scouts, Gavin Rapp had 14 points and Donovan Gingrich 13.

Girls

Kutztown 44, Antietam 25

Katilyn Houptley scored 16 points to lead Kutztown to a 44-25 win over Antietam on Monday.

Also for the Cougars, Ava Kutz had 10 points.

For Antietam, Airyanna Jones had 10 points.

Twin Valley 45, Exeter 43

Lauren Williams scored 16 points to lead Twin Valley to a 45-43 win over Exeter.

For the Eagles, Addison Harper had 18 points.

Conrad Weiser 44, Muhlenberg 35

Alex Trevena scored 14 points and Lauren Grabosky hadd 11 to lead the Scouts to a 44-35 win over Muhlenberg.

For the Muhls, Ryanna Hightower-Prentice had 12 points.

Wilson 57, Gov. Mifflin 42

Olivia Houck scored 18 points to lead Wilson to a 57-42 win over Gov. Mifflin.

Laura Crocona added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

For the Mustangs, Bella Super had 12 points.

Berks Catholic 49, Reading High 43

Sydney Corado scored 23 points to lead Berks Catholic to a 49-43 win over Reading High.

Madison Langdon added 12 for the Saints.

For the Red Knights, Yamilex Rodriguez had 16 points.

Schuylkill Valley 50, Oley Valley 41

Hannah West scored 16 points to lead the Panthers to a 50-41 win over Oley Valley.

Brandywine Heights 62, Tulpehocken 37

Addison Benner scored 18 points to lead the Bullets to a 62-37 win over the Trojans.

Avery Baransky had 15 points for the Trojans.
