Berks Catholic’s Dani Hayward is softball player of the year

Berks Catholic senior pitcher Dani Hayward is the Softball Player of the Year, the BCIAA announced Monday.

The other regular pitcher who made the team is Hamburg senior Hailey Strunk.

Hamburg, who coach Zena Lutz was named Berks Coach of the Year, won the Berks title beating Wilson 8-0, the Bulldogs’ first county title since 2010.

The Bulldogs placed two others players on the team in senior Kylah Reading and junior Jenna Shuman.

Hamburg (17-3) is the top seed in the Class 4A District softball tournament and opens play Thursday in a quarterfinal game.

Kutztown and Wilson each put two players on the team.

Senior Ashley Noecker and freshman Jade Fitzgerald made the team for Kutztown.

For Wilson, junior Tatum Werley and sophomore Kaya Werley were picked.

Also making the team were Muhlenberg sophomore Kaylee Jablonski, Twin Valley senior Karli Arbegast and Wyomissing junior Kyla Lytle.
