Berks County commissioners keep Leinbach as chairman

It’s official. The three men who won seats on the Berks County Board of Commissioners last fall gaveled in for their first meeting of the new session.

Returning Republican Commissioners Christian Leinbach and Michael Rivera were joined by Democratic newcomer Dante Santoni Jr.

The new board settled into their seats for the first time Tuesday morning during a brief reorganizational meeting during which they voted on several appointments and established their leadership posts.

It was decided Leinbach would remain chairman of the board while Rivera would retain his title as vice chairman.

The meeting marked the first official act of business for Santoni.

While the Muhlenberg Township resident is new to the board, he is no stranger to local politics. He served as a state representative from 1993 to 2010. He was also appointed to serve as a commissioner on the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Also during the meeting, the commissioners unanimously voted to reappoint Carmen Torres as chief clerk, Jessica Blauser as deputy chief clerk and Christine Sadler as solicitor.
