Berks County couple charged in child pornography case

A Reading couple is facing charges related to uploading child pornography images, detectives in the Berks County district attorney’s office announced Wednesday.

Dennis Deiter Jr., 46, and Elizabeth Deiter, 34, of South 12th Street were each charged with possession of child pornography. Dennis Deiter was also charged with dissemination of child pornography, while Elizabeth Deiter is also facing a charge of criminal use of a communication facility.

Detectives gave the following account:

Investigators received a complaint from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children involving uploads of digital videos of child pornography to a KIK Messenger account.

County detectives obtained a subpoena served on the internet service provider linked to the uploads of child pornography, which led them to Deiter’s residence.

In 2017, Dennis Deiter was charged with possession of child pornography and later pleaded guilty in Berks County Court. He was sentenced in March 2019 to serve six to 23 months in the Berks County Jail.

He has been a registered sex offender since March 2021.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the home and seized cellphones and computer hard drives belonging to both Dennis and Elizabeth Deiter. During an interview with county detectives, the Deiters admitted to detectives that they used their phones to view child pornography.

A forensic analysis of the phones found numerous digital videos and images of child pornography.

Arrest warrants for both were issued Monday.

On Wednesday, the Deiters were taken into custody at their residence by county detectives. They were transported to the Berks County Central Processing Center where they were fingerprinted and photographed.

Elizabeth Deiter was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Carissa L. Johnson and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

Dennis Deiter is awaiting arraignment Wednesday evening.
