The Berks County Golf Association Amateur Championship, scheduled to be held July 21-23 at Reading Country Club, has been postponed due to damage caused by last Sunday’s heavy rains, the BCGA has announced.
The BCGA is working on finding a new date.
The organization posted the following on its website, bcgagolf.com: “We have been advised by the staff at the Reading Country Club that they received over five inches of rain last Sunday causing major flooding and erosion to the course. There is significant damage to over a third of the holes on the course. There is no timeline as to when the necessary repairs will be completed to make the course payable.”
The BCGA decided to postpone the Berks Amateur on Thursday.
In addition, the BCGA Junior Amateur Championship, which had been scheduled for Reading CC, will now be held Wednesday at Chapel Hill.
Reading Country Club reopened for golf Saturday, with the back nine playable. To get in 18 holes, players could play the back twice. The plan is to have all 18 holes available to play on Thursday.
