Berks girls lacrosse: Twin Valley stays unbeaten with win over Schuylkill Valley

After their dominant conference opener against Conrad Weiser on Tuesday, Twin Valley girls lacrosse would have another chance at a conference opponent in Schuylkill Valley.

From the opening face-off, the Raiders put their foot on the gas and didn’t look back, scoring six goals in the first quarter. Led by Kylie Duke, Madison Lawrence and Ellison Kaplan’s 11 combined goals, Twin Valley was able to pull away from their BCIAA rivals early on.

Twin Valley (5-0, 2-0 BCIAA) defeated Schuylkill Valley (2-2, 0-1 BCIAA) 16-2 Thursday night at Twin Valley Middle School.

“We like to play fast so we try to come out and set the tone early,” said head coach Courtney Kaplan.

Twin Valley was looking to act fast. Despite losing the opening face-off, the Raiders came right down for a score. Meredith Silver scored in the first 25 seconds of the game off the assist from Duke.

Not even two minutes later, Duke would get herself in the goal column, this time, Kaplan on the assist. Coach Kaplan’s girl’s were moving the ball, finding three assists on their first six goals.

Lawrence would find the net in the first quarter along with Kaplan, Meadow Mindziak, and Taylor Ebert. At the end of one, Twin Valley held a commanding 6-0 lead. Schuylkill goalie Kiana Newpher was able to prevent one goal in the first quarter to prevent the game from getting too out of hand.

After some clock management and goals from Lawrence, Kaplan, and Duke, the Raiders went into the half with a 9-1 lead. The lone first half goal coming from Cailyn Smith at the 5:19 mark of the second.

“I really like how unselfish they are,” said Kaplan. “While they score goals, they’re also moving the ball.”

To open the second half, Kaplan put the Raiders into double digits with her third goal of the night. In hopes of reaching a 10-point lead running clock, goalie Stephanie Dunbar, despite little action, was able to stay ready and record her second save of the night.

Lawrence made her save worth the trouble as she extended the Twin Valley lead to 11-1 with 7:55 left in the third quarter. Duke followed up with her third goal of the night off an assist from Brianna Fraley. Lawrence did her part in finding goals for others as she hit Evelyn Delaquito for the 13th Raider goal of the night.

Twin Valley went into the fourth quarter with a 14-1 lead after Duke found Duke for her fourth goal of the game. A late goal from Giana Kaylor off the assist from Grace Wysocki wouldn’t change the outcome, but a good way to finish the game for the Panthers.

After Siever found Ebert and Lawrence for another goal each, the Raiders would close the game with a 16-2 win.

“This wasn’t our best game, we’re coming off our third game in a row,” said Kaplan. “We had a lot of turnovers so we talked about cleaning things up.”

Twin Valley is back in action against Great Valley 10 a.m. Saturday at Twin Valley Middle School. Schuylkill Valley will look to get in the conference win column on Monday at 6 p.m. against Daniel Boone.
