Berks high school cross country: Scouts place second at invitational

The Conrad Weiser boys cross country team placed second in the NEPA Invitational at Bloomsburg on Saturday.

The Scouts scored 114 points, with Hughesville winning the meet with 93. There were 31 teams in the field.

Conrad Weiser’s Aiden Igielski placed 18th in a time of 16:55.8 for the 5,000-meter course. Teammate Jio Garcia was 21st ( 17:06.8), Logan Feeg was 26th (17:19.9), George Behney was 27th (17:21.5) and rounding out the Scouts’ scoring runners was Caden Stoltz in 33rd ( 17:44.4).

Midd-West’s Ben Hummel won the race in 16:05.0.

Carlisle Invitational

Gov. Mifflin senior Julia Leady finished 16th in the Girls Challenge race at the 31st Carlisle Invitational on Saturday.

Leady ran 18:49.6 for the 5,000-meter course. The Challenge race was the better of the two races held for varsity girls with top teams from several states competing.

Twin Valley junior Riley Servis finished 33rd in 19:39.3. There were 296 runners in the race.

The Mustangs’ second runner was Melissa Sweigart, who finished 56th in 20:03.6.

Gov. Mifflin placed 15th in the 42-team field with 442 points. Padua Academy won with 150 points.

In the Boys Challenge race, Gov. Mifflin senior Garrett Hyneman placed 34th in 16:22.4.

The Mustangs finished 26th in the 54-team field with 713 points. Tatnall, from Delaware, won with 121.
