Berks History Center’s Newest Exhibit – “Sights Unseen”

From Berks History Center

The Berks History Center is thrilled to announce its newest exhibit, “Sights Unseen,” which opens with a public reception on Friday, Jan. 24, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This unique exhibition is a collaboration with the Vision Resource Center of Berks County and promises to offer visitors an inspiring experience.

The Story Behind “Sights Unseen”

In the mid-1970s, a remarkable project was undertaken by W. Marc Bernsau, who collaborated with four blind residents of Berks County on a unique photography venture. Each participant navigated the city of Reading with a camera, capturing images inspired by their senses of hearing and smell. The exhibit showcases these photographs, providing insight into the creative perspectives of the photographers and their experiences. Fast-forward to today, the Vision Resource Center of Berks County also chose four clients to undertake the project once more, reminiscent of Bernsau’s approach in the 1970s. The creations of these four photographers will also be showcased, offering an intriguing “then and now” perspective.
