Berks sports roundup: Berks Catholic wins in boys volleyball

Noah Newswanger, Yoniel Moronta and Maverick Stinsky led Berks Catholic to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 win over Schuylkill Valley in boys volleyball on Monday.

Newswanger had 5 kills, 16 assists, two aces, two digs and a block. Moronta had 4 kills and 2 blocks, and Stinsky had 12 digs and a kill.

For the Panthers, Cooper Hohenadel had 8 kills, 8 digs and 2 aces, Alec Vitalo had 9 digs and 3 blocks, and Josh Hill had 5 kills and 2 blocks.

Berks Catholic is 10-6, 8-2 BCIAA Division 2. Schuylkill Valley is 9-7, 6-4.

Linville Hill 3, Daniel Boone 1

Linville Hill defeated Daniel Boone 3-1 in a non-league match on Monday.

The set scores were 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 25-19.

For the Blazers (4-14), Blake Heck had 13 digs, 12 kills and 2 blocks, Cooper Robison had 16 kills and 11 digs, Lucas Webber had 4 blocks and 2 kills, and Sam Walker had 35 assists and 8 digs.

Trinity 3, Reading High 1

Trinity defeated Reading High 3-1 in a non-league match on Monday. The set scores were 25-13, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13.

For the Red Knights (7-9), Michael Bentancourt had 3 kills, 15 assists, 5 blocks and 4 digs, Kadre Willams had 4 kills and 13 assists, Albert Belliard had 7 kills and Jayvian Rodriguez had 6 kills and 4 digs.

Softball

Brandywine Heights 13, Tulpehocken 2

Alyssa Bortz went 3 for 3, including a double, and drove in 6 runs as Brandywine Heights defeated Tulpehocken 13-2 in five innings in a high school softball game on Monday.

Kamryn Henry went 4 for 4 for the Bullets (11-7, 8-4 BCIAA Division 4) with an RBI, and Jenna Crist 3 for 4 with an RBI.

The Trojans are 9-10, 4-8.

Brandywine Heights 15, Tulpehocken 7

Jenna Crist went 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs as Brandywine Heights defeated Tulpehocken 15-7 in a game that was continued from April 2. Following this game, the two teams played their scheduled game.

Wyomissing 19, Reading High 3

Caris Way went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs as Wyomissing defeated Reading High 19-3 in three innings on Monday.

Also for the Spartans (9-9), Ellie George drove in 3 runs.
