Berks County has a new public information officer.
Jonathan Heintzman, who brings with him more than two decades of experience, began his tenure as the official voice of the county on Monday.
Heintzman will be in charge of fielding and responding to questions from residents and media regarding county services, programs and departments, as well as supporting the operations of the commissioners. He replaces Stephanie Weaver, who was tapped last month to help lead the county elections office as the assistant director of that department.
He will be paid a salary of $80,000.
Heintzman, who grew up in Berks and graduated from Wilson High School, said Tuesday that he is excited to work for the county that he still calls home.
“This position ticked all the boxes for me,” the West Lawn resident said about his role with the county. “I like working for institutions that I respect, that I feel provide a vital service to the community. If you look back across my career that is one of the running threads.”
Heintzman has worked in public relations for 25 years, and comes to the county following a stint as the senior manager of public relations and communications at Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences in Lancaster County. But that was just the most recent position he has had in what has been a diverse career that has included posts at Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, Abilities in Motion in Reading, Service Access & Management Inc. and Wilson School District.
