Big fourth quarter lifts Berks Catholic girls basketball team over Gov. Mifflin

A strong finish lifted Berks Catholic over Gov. Mifflin on Thursday night.

The Saints outscored the Mustangs 14-8 over the final five minutes of play and made several crucial free throws to complete a 50-45 win in a Berks Girls Basketball League Division I matchup at Wolf Gymnasium.

Berks Catholic (9-0, 16-3) took a 38-37 lead with just over five minutes remaining and never relinquished it. The Saints made five of their final seven free throws, all of which came in the last two minutes.

Trailing by three points with less than 20 seconds to go, Gov. Mifflin (6-3, 11-7) had a chance to tie, but Berks Catholic senior Aaliyah Dabney forced a Mustangs turnover. The turnover led to two points for Dabney, who made a layup at the buzzer to seal the win for the Saints.
