The Antietam Valley Community Partnership is holding a “Pasta with a Purpose” fundraiser tonight to raise money for those impacted by recent flooding.
A spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. at the recreation center in Carsonia Park, 905 Byram St., Pennside. Donations will be devoted to recovery efforts. AVCP will match up to the first $1,000 in donations.
Theater in public
A community engagement organization is using public theater to empower Reading artists and to reimagine what heroes look like for their community in a program scheduled for Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Reading Public Library, 100 S. Fifth St..
Barrio Alegría and a troupe of local artists will deliver a free public performance of its original play, “The Archenemy,” on the steps of the library. The play explores themes of power, gun violence and the choices that create our most hopeful heroes and vengeful archenemies.
The production builds on engagement efforts years in the making, aiming to elevate participants and the imagination of the community, giving neighbors skills to live a more fulfilled life.
StoryWalk debut
Berks County Public Libraries and Berks Nature will unveil a permanent StoryWalk exhibit on the grounds of Berks Nature, the Nature Place, on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. Guests may park at 575 St. Bernardine St. in Reading. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to the Nature Place’s Rookery Rooftop Deck.
This is the fifth permanent StoryWalk display in Berks County, offering a combination of the joy of reading and love of the outdoors.
The Story Walk will remain open after the ribbon-cutting ceremony and will be available to enjoy daily from dusk to dawn.
Lego Train Days
Lego Train Days return to the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum, 500 S. Third St., Hamburg, this weekend and Aug. 5 and 6. The operating “Brick Reading Railroad” will return, expanded to include more than 15 custom-built Reading Railroad locomotives housed in a model of the Saucon Roundhouse together with Franklin Street Station and more lighted buildings.
Another display, 28 feet in length, will feature operating Lego trains and unique moving scenes. Visitors will also enjoy a world-class collection of trains produced by Lego through more than 80 years, including the first Lego train and Lego brick-built train.
The display is included in museum admission: Adults $9, seniors $8, Children 5-12 $3; children 4 and under free. Saturday hours 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday noon to 4.

License plate event
State Rep. Jamie Barton is sponsoring an opportunity to replace damaged license plates. It will be held Aug. 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cabela’s, 100 Cabela Drive, Tilden Township.
A registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet away or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity over the course of time rather than through a specific incident that caused damage.
Tilden Township police will be present to sign off on the necessary form to have a new plate sent. The service is free of charge.
