Bulletin board: Safe Berks Walk for No More set for Saturday

The Safe Berks Walk for No More is scheduled for June 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. starting at 820 at the Mills behind Sly Fox Tap House in Wyomissing.

Following a light breakfast and awards presentation, the group will walk to the 400 block of Penn Street, calling for an end to domestic violence and sexual assault. Participation is free and the event is open to the public, but donations will be accepted. The event kicks off West Reading’s Art on the Avenue celebration that day.

Flea market

The Reading Flea Market at Shillington is having its grand opening Saturday behind Gov. Mifflin Intermediate School, 600 Governor Drive, Shillington, from 7 to 11 a.m. Items for sale include toys, home goods, tools, clothing, video games, decorations, shoes, coins and currency, militariana and more. Spirit on Tap

Safe Berks will present a program at Spirit on Tap on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, Reading. Laura Preston and Mindy McIntosh will discuss their agency’s work in providing support services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. They will define domestic violence, who it affects, and what barriers survivors face when seeking services or leaving an abusive relationship, with a more specific focus on the role of religious and cultural stigma. They will briefly discuss what we can do to support survivors in our community and outline the services Safe Berks provides.

Polish Open golf

The Polish American Heritage Association of Berks County will hold its annual Polish Open Golf Tournament fundraiser on Saturday, June 15, at Manor Golf Club, Spring Township.

The scramble format starts at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $95 per golfer and includes greens fee, cart, lunch, dinner, refreshments, tee gift and prizes.

Grief support

The sudSSpirit grief support group for those that have experienced the sudden unexpected death of a spouse or significant other will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Exeter Community Library. Story time and craft

Friends of Robesonia Community Library are sponsoring an author story time and craft Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 75 S. Brooke St.. Meg Auchenbach, author and illustrator of If You Are an Artist, will read her debut picture book and lead a craft. There will be a signed art print giveaway. This is perfect for budding bookworms and artists of all ages. Refreshments offered afterwards and signed copies available for purchase by cash or check.

Drive-thru dairy

The Virginville Grange community service committee is sponsoring a drive-thru dairy month event on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grange hall, 456 Main St. The menu includes a pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce, potato chips and applesauce for $11. Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts for $10 per dozen and Farm Show milkshakes for $6. The newly crowned Berks County Dairy Princess will be in attendance.

Elvis tribute

Award-winning Elvis Presley tribute artist Jeff Krick Jr. will perform a free concert as the king of rock ’n’ roll on Tuesday, June 4, at 6 p.m. in the Keystone Villa at Fleetwood, 501 Hoch Road, Maidencreek Township.

Library fundraiser

Reading Public Library’s May 15 Celebrity Bartender fundraising event raised more than $17,500, surpassing the goal of $15,000. Bartenders included Kelsey Frankowski, David Farrar, Crystal Gilmore Harris and Brad Weisman.

The proceeds support the creation of a Reading Nook in the Children’s Area at the Main Library at Fifth and Franklin streets. It will include design elements and comfortable family seating to help children escape in their next adventure through reading. Donations will be used to expand adult programming such as book clubs and ESL Classes.

Arts tour

The Hawk Mountain Arts Tour is set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tour includes more than 35 artists and businesses throughout the Kempton valley plus a satellite location hosted by the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance at Etchberger Memorial Park in Hamburg.

The free driving tour takes place within a 25-mile radius of Albany Township, and a downloadable map of the stops can be found at hawkmountain.org/artstour. Printed maps will also be available at the Haawk Mountain Sanctuary’s Visitor Center, which is the first stop on the tour featuring five local artisans. Visitors will be able to purchase pieces and products at most stops. Host locations will be open to provide refreshments and locally sourced treats.

Fashion fundraiser

The ninth anniversary of the Pink Passion for Fashion Show will take place Aug. 11 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Reading. Ticket sales are open, and sponsorship opportunities are available. In-kind donations of items for the silent auction are being accepted.

The fashion, provided by local clothing stores, will be modeled by breast cancer survivors and nominated medical professionals. The fundraiser will feature a Garden Party Raffle Package and an auction.

Open house

Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold its monthly Open House on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at its Golden Gateway facility at 60 Vera Cruz Road, Reinholds. Meet dogs that are available for adoption. Staff is on hand to answer questions, and food is available for purchase. No admission charge. Do not bring other dogs to this event.
