CASA of Berks County is proud to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025, marking a decade of advocacy, growth, and impact for children in foster care. Since opening in 2015, the organization has worked to ensure that children who have experienced abuse or neglect have a dedicated, trained advocate by their side — a Court Appointed Special Advocate to speak up for their best interests and help guide them to safe, permanent homes.
In its very first year, CASA of Berks trained 21 volunteers who advocated for 25 children. Today, CASA has grown to include nearly 60 active volunteers. Over the past decade, 134 trained volunteers have advocated for 313 children who were victims of abuse or neglect — ensuring they are seen, heard, and supported through some of life’s most difficult transitions.
Founded on Community Commitment
CASA of Berks County was founded in 2015 with generous seed investments from the United Way of Berks County, the Berks County Community Foundation, and the Wyomissing Foundation. These organizations believed in the CASA mission from the beginning and helped establish a strong foundation for growth. Today, CASA operates with an annual budget exceeding $370,000, supported by consistent funding from the Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA), PA CASA, the United Way of Berks County, and the Berks County Bar Foundation, as well as generous support from local businesses and donors.
“We are incredibly proud of the impact we’ve made over the past 10 years, but even more grateful for the community that has stood beside us,” said Executive Director Nancy McCullar. “Our growth is rooted in the passion of our volunteers and the trust of our partners.”
Looking Ahead
While much has been accomplished in the past 10 years, CASA of Berks County remains focused on the future. There are still many children who need a voice — and CASA is committed to being there for each one.
“Ten years in, and we’re just getting started,” said McCullar. “Every child deserves a champion. As long as there are children in foster care, CASA will be here — standing in the gap, telling their stories, and reminding the world that every voice matters.”
Upcoming Celebration
In honor of this milestone, CASA of Berks County will host a 10th anniversary Gala of Light on Saturday, Oct. 4, bringing together volunteers, donors, partners, and community members. The event will include celebrating their three founding organizations, honoring Ann Marie Cucinotta, their 2025 Champion for Children, an auction of works of art donated by Berks Arts Alliance, and stories from those whose lives have been touched by CASA’s work.
