Celebrate Pennsylvania German Easter traditions and the folk culture of the region at Easter on the Farm on Saturday, April 12.
Held at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University, located at 22 Luckenbill Road, Easter on the Farm features folklife demonstrations, live music, folk artists, kid’s activities and animals from 11 am to 4 p.m.
The free educational event offers historical and cultural experiences, including traditional hearth cooking with Becky Manley and Pennsylvania German baked goods in the woodstove by Terry Berger in the summer kitchen. Don Edris of Iron Oak Creations will demonstrate traditional blacksmithing on a coal forge.
Local artisans from the The Reading-Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen will display their traditional crafts.
At the children’s craft tent, get hands-on experiences with the region’s holiday traditions then join the children’s Easter egg hunts at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. and meet potbellied pigs from Puddin’ Heartland 1st, Auburn.
Live Pennsylvania German music will be provided by Mike and Linda Hertzog at noon, The Shooflies at 1:30 p.m. and Dave Kline at 3 p.m.
Plus stop by the book stand to find new selections from the Heritage Center’s annual publication series “Sauer’s Herbal Cures: America’s First Book of Botanical Healing” by William Woys Weaver and visit the Heritage Center’s headquarters at the DeLight E. Breidegam Building to explore the featured exhibition “Carved from our Roots: Selected Works of Marshall D. Rumbaugh.”
