Centre Park Historic District Inc. will host a community celebration and picnic Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Centre Park.
Residents and guests are invited to preview the nearly completed renovations to the park in the 700 block of Centre Avenue.
More than 10 years in planning, the $1 million project was funded with a combination of American Rescue Plan Act grant money and city capital improvement project funds.
Improvements to the park include the installation of a replica Victorian-era fountain, lighting fixtures and benches, all complementary to the period houses predominantly found in the historic district.
The new fountain will be operating during the picnic.
The event features music by Mix Tape Unplugged with members of the Uptown Band.
Complimentary hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and ice cream will be served.
Attendees are invited to bring their own picnic foods and drinks.
No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the park.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Aug. 11.
