From City of Reading
The City of Reading has been selected to receive a $250,000 grant through Governor Josh Shapiro’s PA SITES (Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites) program. The funding will help the City take key steps toward transforming the former Dana Corporation site, a 50-acre property with industrial history, into a future-ready location for business investment and job creation.
The grant will allow the City to complete a detailed redevelopment plan, including environmental assessments, infrastructure evaluations, and utility capacity studies. These efforts will help prepare the property for new economic opportunities that align with the City’s broader redevelopment goals.
“This award represents a tremendous opportunity for Reading’s future,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “For decades, the Dana site has stood as a reminder of our city’s industrial past. Now, with this investment from the Commonwealth, we have the chance to turn that chapter into one of growth, innovation, and new employment for our residents. We are grateful to Governor Shapiro and DCED for believing in Reading’s potential.”
The PA SITES program is part of the Commonwealth’s initiative to make key locations across Pennsylvania “shovel-ready” — meaning they are equipped with the planning, infrastructure, and environmental readiness to attract private investment and development. Reading was one of 11 projects statewide chosen to receive funding in the program’s latest round, totaling more than $39 million in combined state investment.
As planning gets underway, City officials look forward to working with state partners, community stakeholders, and local organizations to ensure the site’s redevelopment aligns with Reading’s long-term vision.
