In a show of support for Philadelphia’s team as they prepare for the Super Bowl, the City of Reading will light up green starting Thursday, Feb. 6. City Hall, the Penn Street Bridge, city-owned buildings at North Fifth and Penn streets, and the William Penn Memorial Fire Tower on the mountain will be illuminated in green.
Mayor Eddie Morán is encouraging all city employees to join in the spirit by wearing their favorite NFL jersey or T-shirt Friday, Feb. 7.
Additionally, to further demonstrate the City’s commitment to supporting the regional team and important causes, City of Reading staff are organizing a fundraising effort. Donations collected will be evenly split between the Eagles Autism Foundation and Special Olympics of Berks County, two organizations dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the community. Those wishing to contribute can do so by visiting the HR office to donate.
“We know how much sports bring communities together, and we want to show our support for the local team as they head to the biggest game of the year,” said Mayor Morán. “This is also an opportunity to give back to two great causes that hold a special place in my heart, especially the Special Olympics of Berks County. Their work in empowering individuals with disabilities is truly inspiring, and I’m proud that our city can contribute to their mission.” Residents and businesses are also encouraged to join in by displaying green lights or wearing team apparel.
