Ja’briel Mace ran for 165 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as Villanova capped the regular season with a 34-10 nonleague win over Sacred Heart Saturday.
The win for Villanova (9-2) is its eighth straight overall, its 22nd straight at home and its 21st straight non-conference win in the regular season against FCS opposition over the last 10 years.
With Rhode Island’s win over Hampton Saturday, Villanova finishes second in the CAA standings, a game behind the Rams’ second straight title. The Wildcats await selection in the FCS playoff field on Sunday.
Mace carried nine times for 165 yards. He broke an 80-yard scored in the first quarter to put Villanova up for good at 7-3. He added a 19-yard rushing touchdown and caught a 10-yard TD pass from Pat McQuaide to put Villanova up 21-3 at the half.
Field goals of 27 and 29 yards by Jack Barnum accounted for the only points from either team in the third quarter. McQuaide found Isaiah Ragland for an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Mace accounted for 186 yards of offense. Ragland ran 11 times for 71 yards and had three catches for 31 yards. McQuaide was 17-for-29 for 216 yards and two TDs. He hit Chris Colby five times for 112 yards, including a 57-yarder.
