The young adults of Community Connections-Berks, Inc. have taken on the challenge of collecting pop tabs and donating them to the Ronald McDonald House of Central Pennsylvania. The purpose of this challenge is to support children and families experiencing medical challenges through “doing our part and doing what we can.” The target donation date is Tuesday, May 20, and the young adults of Community Connections-Berks, Inc. are aiming to set a new world record for a single donation of pop tabs.
The current world record of 6.2 million pop tabs was set in August 2023 by a boy in Canada. It takes approximately 1,200 pop tabs to equal one pound – so the current world record is over 5,000 pounds of pop tabs! The Ronald McDonald House of Central Pennsylvania uses the funds received for the pop tabs to support families with housing and meals while a child is receiving treatment at Hershey Medical Center.
Community members interested in participating in the challenge can drop off pop tabs in collection containers at the following locations:
- Wyndham Advisors
- Sal’s Pizza
- Fresh Frenchy’s
- Daniel Boone School District
- St. Catharine of Siena School
- St. Ignatius School
