The community came out Monday to show support for the families of the two Schuylkill County teenagers killed last week.
Mourners turned out in mass at Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home in New Philadelphia to pay final respects to Hunter Mock, 18, and Angelito Xavier Caraballo, 16, during a 4-hour viewing.
A half-hour service that followed the viewing was led by Pastor Preston Broadhurst from Kimmels Evangelical Free Church near McKeansburg.
Photos of Mock and Caraballo were displayed inside the funeral home. Some mourners carried roses and photos, and many clutched tissues as they waited in a long line to get into and through the funeral home.
State police had reported the two teens missing. Their bodies were discovered Oct. 10 about 3:25 a.m. outside the borough in a wooded area off Ferndale Road about 1 mile east of Route 209, police said.
Following autopsies conducted at the Dauphin County Forensic Center, police said the cause of death for each was homicide.
Police have not said if they have any suspects or what the motive may have been for the killings. Trooper David Beohm, public information officer for Reading-based Troop L, said Monday that he had no new information on the case.
One man, who said he was a family friend but declined to give his name, spoke about the need for more police coverage as he walked away from the funeral home.
“It’s unfortunate that it hit home,” he said. “These boys deserve justice, especially considering how young they were.”
In his obituary, Mock was remembered for his amazing heart and warm smile. Similarly, Caraballo’s obituary said he attended Pottsville Area High School, where his smile will forever be remembered.
