District 3 team wrestling tournament: Tulpehocken, Newport square off in Class 2A

Jonathan McQuillen (145) and Seth Karpulk (152) scored technical falls and Mason Frederick (160) had a pin in the final three matches to rally Tulpehocken to a 40-31 win over Newport in the first round of the District 3 Class 2A team wrestling championships on Monday.

Tulpehocken trailed 31-24 with three bouts remaining.

McQuillen scored a 21-4 technical fall win over Aidan Crockett to pull the Trojans to win two points at 31-29.

Karpulk gave the Trojans a 34-31 lead with a 19-3 technical fall over Noah Bryner.

Frederick sealed the match for the Trojans with a pin in 1:17 over Trevin Arnold.

Tulpehocken, the eighth seed and 14-6, faces top-seeded Bishop McDevitt (15-0) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, second-seeded Berks Catholic (17-0) hosts seventh-seeded Littlestown (13-4), a 54-20 winner over Annville-Cleona on Monday.
