Eagles Notebook: Jalen Hurts typically philosophical after another player of week honor

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was NFC offensive player of the week after completing 29 of 38 passes for 319 yards, four touchdowns and a 135.7 rating in the 38-31 win over the Commanders. Hurts is only the sixth player to accumulate 300 or more rushing and passing yards and two combined passing and rushing touchdowns.

It’s the third such player of the week honor for Hurts who has won 24 of his last 26 regular season starts.

The Eagles and Hurts have won six straight games in which they’ve trailed by double digits with a single-minded purpose.

“Be a believer, continue to play the game, not let the scoreboard or whatever’s going on in the game in that moment determine how we come out and play,” Hurts said. “Obviously, we’ve had a ton of different games in this run here, but I think it all comes down to execution and (doing) it at a high level.”

Eagles tight end Grant Calcaterra didn’t practice Wednesday as he recovers from a concussion he suffered on Sunday. Also idle, according to the estimation provided by the Eagles, were cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder) and running back Boston Scott (personal matter).

For what it’s worth, defensive tackle Jalen Carter was a full go, while defensive tackle Jordan Davis (hamstring), guards Cam Jurgens (foot) and Sua Opeta (hip), tight end Jack Stoll (ankle) and defensive tackle Milton Williams (shoulder) were limited.

For the Cowboys, left offensive tackle Tyron Smith, a late scratch last week with a neck injury, didn’t practice Wednesday but participated in a walkthrough along with offensive lineman Chuman Edoga (ankle). Wide receiver Michael Gallup (illness) was the other Cowboy unable to practice for injury reasons.

The Cowboys (5-2) are 3-point underdogs versus the Eagles (7-1). If Smith can’t play that spread could double.

“I think he definitely has a chance,” head coach Mike McCarthy said on a conference call. “He won’t practice today. He’ll be limited tomorrow. But he definitely has a chance.”
