Fire destroys mobile home in Exeter Township

Berks County fire crews were called to an overnight fire that destroyed a mobile home in a remote corner of Exeter Township.

The fire was reported about 5:15 a.m. at 720 Hall Ave., a dead-end street off Littlefield Avenue near the R.M. Palmer Co. warehouse in the southeastern corner of the township.

The initial crews found the structure was engulfed in flames, said Deputy Chief Chris Chamberlain of Exeter Township Fire Department. Because there were no hydrants in the vicinity, he said, fire officers called for additional tanker trucks to be dispatched from other fire companies to shuttle water to site.

Two occupants of the home go out safely, Chamberlain said. The American Red Cross was called to assist two residents with emergency housing and other needs.

A state police fire marshal responded to begin an investigation of the cause.
