Flood warning in effect until 3:15 a.m. Thursday for Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties

The National Weather Service at Mount Holly has issued a flood warning for Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties until 3:15 a.m. as heavy rain moved through the region Wednesday night. The warning also included portions of northern Delaware.

“Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring,” the warning stated.

As of 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, between .5 and 1.5 inches of rain had fallen according to the NWS.

The warning specifically mentioned Allentown, Reading, Wilmington, Newark, Easton, Middletown, West Chester, Bethlehem, Norristown, Chester, Pottstown and Phoenixville as areas that may experience flooding.

The NWS offered this advice: “Turn around … don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.”

A flood watch is in effect until 7 p.m. on Thursday for Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties.

“Rainfall totals of 1.5 to 2 inches are forecast across the watch area tonight and Thursday with the heaviest rainfall expected during the evening and overnight hours tonight. Some areas may see locally higher totals near 3 inches.
