Flood watch, storms in forecast for today in southeastern PA

There is a National Weather Service flood watch in effect for Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh; Northampton and Philadelphia counties from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday.

“Another round of showers and thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon and into tonight which could produce heavy rain,” the NWS alert said. “With an already saturated surface, it will not take much rainfall to result in flooding. Rainfall rates of around 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible.”

The NWS said people living in flood-prone areas should monitor later forecasts and watch for possible flood warnings.

Tuesdays storms knocked out power to many in the area, but most has been restored. Here are the remaining outages, by county, as of 11 a.m. for Met-Ed/FirstEnergy: Berks, 619; Chester, 5; Montgomery, 5; and for PECO: Chester, 1,298; Delaware, 132; Montgomery, 262.

Rainfall amounts varied widely in the region Tuesday, according to NWS data, from .01 of an inch in Boyertown to 2.11 inches in New Hanover Township.

Lots of damage in southeastern Berks was being reported, but the NWS had not issued any information yet on a specific event that may have occurred there.
