Four Berks wrestlers clinch PIAA berths by advancing to the semifinals at the Class 2A Southeast Regional Tournament

Four Berks wrestlers clinched berths in the state tournament and remained alive for titles by winning twice Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Class 2A Southeast Regional Tournament at Freedom High School.

Brandywine Heights’ Dillon Reinert at 126, Berks Catholic’s Brody Kline at 215 and Berks Catholic’s Mason Iswalt and Wyomissing’s Caleb Brewer at 285 will wrestle in today’s semifinals. Wrestling begins with the second round of consolations at 9:30 a.m.

The top six finishers in each weight class advance to the PIAA Wrestling Championships March 10-12 at Hershey’s Giant Center.

Reinert pinned District 11 champ Hector Mateo of Saucon Valley in 18 seconds in the first-round for his 100th career victory, then defeated District 3 runner-up Tyler Morrison of West Perry 9-1 in the quarterfinals.

Reinert, a senior who finished seventh last week at districts, returns to states for the first time since 2020. He won the 113-pound regional title last year, but did not advance to states because a Super Regional round was added.

Kline, a sophomore and the District 3 runner-up, beat Allentown Central Catholic’s Mitchell Miller, the District 11 fourth-place finisher, 12-8 in the first round. He then pinned District 1/12 runner-up Vincent Piermatteo of Archbishop Ryan in 52 seconds in the quarterfinals.

Iswalt, a senior and the District 3 fourth-place finisher, defeated District 11 runner-up Ben Krauss of Salisbury Township 2-1 in the first round, then defeated Grant Cutler of Camp Hill 2-1 in the quarterfinals. Cutler finished sixth in District 3.

Brewer, a sophomore and the District 3 runner-up, pinned Tristan Livezey, the third-place finisher from District 1/12, in 56 seconds in the first round. He pinned District 11 champ Tyler Pfizenmayer of Saucon Valley in two minutes in the quarters.

Nine Berks wrestlers remain alive in the consolation bracket: Berks Catholic’s Brayden Hartranft (106), Christopher Smith (113), Marvin Armistead (132), Carmine Lenzi (138), Gabriel Davis (172) and Timothy Saylor (189); Brandywine Heights’ Jacob Deysher (120); Hamburg’s Charles Sheppard (285); and Schuylkill Valley’s Ian Vitalo (132).
