St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boyertown will host a free concert by The Ringgold Band at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.
“St. John’s Lutheran Church invites you to immerse yourself in a celebration of music, community, and faith. Join us as we come together to witness the incredible works that God is doing in our lives and our neighborhood,” according to the press release.
In honor of Black History Month, this free performance will spotlight the contributions of African American musicians and composers throughout history.
With roots dating back to 1852, The Ringgold Band is known for its vibrant performances and commitment to the arts.
This concert offers a journey through music that celebrates African American heritage. Featuring iconic works from the 19th century to contemporary masterpieces, the eclectic program includes swing of Duke Ellington, melodies of Louis Armstrong, alongside powerful marches from WWI bandleader James Reese Europe. A highlight of the evening will be the compositions of Florence Price, the first African American woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra.
In addition to instrumental pieces, the concert will include moving vocal performances, including the anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” as well as a heartfelt tribute to Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks.
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 45 N. Reading Ave. in Boyertown.
