Hamburg’s Mia Gassert is BCIAA Player of the Year in girls tennis

Hamburg senior Mia Gassert, the Berks and District 3 Class 2A individual champion, has been voted the BCIAA girls tennis Player of the Year.

The voting was conducted by the girls tennis coaches in the BCIAA.

Gassert won the BCIAA individual title by beating Wilson’s Jin Lin Chen 6-2, 6-2 in the finals.

In the District 3 Class 2A singles final, Gassert beat Biglerville’s Paytyn Plank 6-0, 6-3.

Gassert will play in the PIAA Championships this weekend.

Joining Gassert on the all-conference team were Berks Catholic freshman Ariana Plevrakis, Conrad Weiser junior Charlotte Wenrich, Exeter junior Myah Marturano, Fleetwood junior Erin Soron, Gov. Mifflin senior Kira Jones, Wilson junior Jin Lin Chen, and Wyomissing’s Lily Chen, a junior, and Charlotte Reedy, a senior.

Berks Catholic coach Lauren Urban, who guided her team to the District 3 Class 2A team title, was voted coach of the year.

Named to the All-Division 1 Team were: Exeter junior Miara McCartin, Gov. Mifflin senior Maria Bowman, Reading sophomore Haylee Ortega and Wilson sophomore Brooke Mengel.

Receiving honorable mention in Division 1 were: Daniel Boone freshman Sarah Shank, Exeter freshman Lily Jordan, Twin Valley junior Maggie Stoltzfus and Wilson sophomore Emily Tippin.

Named to the All-Division 2 Team were: Berks Catholic senior Sarah Schnatz, Brandywine Heights junior Jamie Davidheiser, and Kutztown’s Kaydence Bohning, a senior, and Madelyn Maley, a junior.

Receiving honorable mention in Division 2 were: Antietam senior Katie McClain, Berks Catholic senior Isabella Logozzo, Hamburg senior Shayna Morales and Wyomissing sophomore Peyton Carlson.
