LIMERICK — A company looking to site a 45,000-square-foot warehouse operated by a company seeking permission to temporarily store hazardous chemicals and substances on 11.5 acres located between West Linfield-Trappe Road and North Lewis Road has pumped the brakes on the proposal.
A legal notice published in The Mercury on Dec. 13 advertised a hearing before the zoning hearing board for Wednesday, Dec. 20 in the township building located at 646 W. Ridge Pike.
However, Township Manager Dan Kerr informed MediaNews Group Wednesday that “the applicant filed an indefinite extension” so the Dec. 20 hearing on the project will not occur. “We’re not sure when it will be re-advertised as it is up to the applicant, but we would assume for January or February zoning hearing board dates if they decide to keep the project moving forward.”
According to the Dec. 13 legal notice, once built the property would contain the 45,000-square-foot warehouse and a 10,000-square-foot office adjacent to the warehouse that would be occupied by Lewis Environmental, an environmental contracting and emergency response company.
Lewis Environmental is “responsible for the removal and temporary storage of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and residual waste,” according to the notice.
The two properties are in the office/limited industrial zoning district and the address listed in the notice is 361 W. Linfield-Trappe Road.
The issue that would be put before the zoning hearing board if the proposal moves forward is the “proposed bulk storage of highly hazardous chemicals or substances” which “requires a special exception approval” from the zoning board in order to be approved, the notice read.
“The applicant proposes to store the hazardous waste on the North Lewis Road property for three to 10 days, indoors, in a gated portion of the property, before it is distributed to a disposal facility for treatment, landfill, recycling or other form of final disposition,” according to the notice.
A full copy of the application is available at the township building during normal business hours.
