I-78 crash slows traffic in northern Berks

A crash on Interstate 78 in Berks County on Tuesday morning is slowing traffic.

One eastbound lane of the highway was closed following a crash involving multiple vehicles, according to an alert from 511PA just before 7:30 a.m. The crash happened around mile marker 39.5, between the Krumsville/Kutztown and Lenhartsville exits in Greenwich Township.

At least one car involved in the crash had severe damage.

The on-ramp to I-78 east at Lenhartsville was closed, and many motorists were taking Old Route 22 to get back on the highway at the Krumsville/Kutztown exit. Traffic was backed up for several miles, almost to the Hamburg exit.

No further details were immediately available.
