Celebrate Smokey the Bear’s 80th birthday with the Berks County Parks & Recreation Department. Smokey the Bear first appeared on a Forest Fire Prevention campaign poster in 1944 and has been the face of preventing forest fires ever since.
Join us on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Berks County Heritage Center for our free celebration. Activities and fun for the whole family. The event will proceed rain or shine.
Grab a birthday treat and meet Smokey himself. Listen to the Smokey story at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., presented by the Berks County Library System. Visit the Smokey Coloring Station and enter our kids’ coloring contest for a chance to win some Smokey Swag. Construct a Smokey craft. Check out firetrucks up close and vote for your favorite apparatus. See a drone demo and learn how they help fight forest fires. Check out Smokey’s memorabilia in the barn. Grab lunch from the Lio Colon Food Bus. Have a cool treat from Greco’s Italian Ices & Homemade Ice Cream. Visit conservation-oriented organizations and enjoy the activities they have planned. Paint your face like Smokey. Complete your Smokey Passport and win a prize.
