From Kutztown University
Kutztown University Radio (KUR) received nominations in nine categories for the 86th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards, to be awarded at the annual conference in March in New York City. This special event presents awards to colleges and universities to recognize exceptional programming and student radio stations on a national level.
The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference receives submissions from all over the world and has more than 80 different categories of awards. The categories KUR was nominated for include:
- Best Specialty Show (Non-Music): Boxwood Banter: Feminism in a New Era (Taiya Miller and Michaela Brino-Dean)
- Best On-Air Pledge Drive: 1866 Giving Challenge (Devon Koch, Nathan Brottman, Alex Schwartz, Jennifer Nevin, Dominic DePretis, Bronson Minnick, Jake Martin, Ayden Scanlon, Taylor Laity, Allison Sipics, and Kayla Horger)
- Best Promo Series: Reachable Reels Promos (Alex Schwartz)
- Best ID – Streaming Station: KUR Station ID (Devon Koch)
- Best Sports Interview: Field Hockey Coach Interview (Tommy Scuderi)
- Best Sports Pre-/Post-Game Show: Pre/Post-Game Kutztown Football (Matt Scheidler, Jake Martin, Tommy Scuderi, Alex Schwartz, and Celeste Gonzalez)
- Best Sports Director: Tommy Scuderi
- Best Business Director (Treasurer): Alex Schwartz
- Best Advisor: Mike Regensburger
This is the fifth consecutive year that KUR has received nominations. For the third year, KUR was nominated for the Best On-Air Pledge Drive category, winning in 2024.
KUR offers an array of different types of programming. During the daytime, listeners are likely to hear a laid-back vibe of smooth pop, R&B and jazz vocals, and light alternative. Student, faculty, and KU’s specialty shows are featured during the afternoons and evenings that encompass a wide variety of styles from rock to rap to blues to talk programming.
Revived in 2005 from the remnants of WRKU, KU’s longtime student radio station, KUR is staffed by more than 50 Kutztown University students.
