Kutztown University’s Sarah Gatehouse, a Wilson grad, wins NCAA Elite 90 Award for Division II field hockey

Kutztown University senior Sarah Gatehouse, a Wilson grad, has been awarded the Elite 90 Award for this year’s NCAA Division II championships in field hockey.

The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site of each NCAA championship.

The Golden Bears defeated Shippensburg 2-1 Friday in the semifinals at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., and will play defending champ East Stroudsburg in the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m. The Warriors beat Assumption 3-0 in the other semifinal.

Gatehouse, a sports management major, has a 4.0 GPA. She is a multi-year Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award winner, NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and NFHCA National Academic Squad and Dean’s List member.

On the field, Gatehouse was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year earlier this month. She also was named to the All-PSAC first team for the second straight season.

She anchors a defense that went into the semifinals ranked first in the nation in goals allowed (nine) and goals against average (.338). She also went in tied for the team lead in points with 20 on seven goals and five assists. She has started all 21 games for KU (18-3) at center back.
