Lebanon VA Medical Center recognized among best in the nation for patient experience

The Lebanon VA Medical Center, which serves veterans from Berks and eight other counties in the region, has again been named among the top VA facilities in the country for patient experience.

The facility is one of 170 medical centers in the nation with the sole purpose of providing medical care to veterans, and earned that honor from among those of its clinical complexity type, the VA announced.

“There is a real strong commitment here to keeping the nation’s promise to care for our veterans,” said Lebanon spokesman Doug Etter.

It is the third straight year the medical center has received the honor, and it’s a credit to the important work the facility performs each day, said Department of Veterans Affairs Press Secretary Terrence Hayes.

“There is no better mission than to care for veterans who have served our nation so well,” he said. “This award is just another shining example of the superior customer service and high-quality care that our team at the Lebanon VA Medical Center prides itself on daily for the veterans they serve.”

The veterans’ facility and its five associated community clinics, including those in Spring Township and Pottsville, achieved the highest overall combined patient experience and employee experience scores of all facilities of its type in the Veterans Health Administration.

The facility scored at the top in the survey of health care providers, overall rating of the provider, inpatient overall rating of the hospital, veterans’ trust scores and the all-employee survey scores for the best places to work.

The veteran trust score was at a record high level for the facility, officials said.

“It’s a great day when the actions, culture and outcomes of our staff are recognized and honored at a national level,” said Lebanon VA Medical Center CEO and Executive Director Jeffrey A. Beiler, II.

“The best in VA Overall Experience Award is like the Oscar, Emmy or Grammy awards,” he said. “It’s a reaffirmation for years of excellence and demonstrates great achievements are possible with excellent teamwork.”

Lebanon VAMC serves a nine-county area in south central Pennsylvania covering Berks, Schuylkill, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.

It also oversees community clinics in Spring Township; Pottsville; Lancaster; and Cumberland and York counties.

Berks County Veterans Director Ken Lebron complimented the medical center for the good work it does.

“Veterans are so fortunate to have Lebanon VAMC as its health care provider in this region because they consistently make strides and efforts every day to provide the best quality service to its customers, our veterans,” he said.

The Lebanon VAMC is a part of the larger Veterans Integrated Service Network-4, which includes nine VA campuses, 45 outpatient clinics, 16 veteran centers and three mobile veteran centers covering 83 counties in Pennsylvania, Delaware and parts of Ohio, West Virginia, New York and New Jersey.

In fiscal year 2022-23, that network had the highest trust score among veterans in the nation at 93.8%, according to the VA. It also has the highest number of compliments at 76.6% and the lowest number of concerns at 12.4%.
