The nine U.S. Supreme Court Justices are fully aware of their lifetime status under the Constitution. They are cognizant of former President Donald Trump’s aspirations. Further, they have explicit understanding of all the nefarious actions that big-money oligarchs hope to achieve under the next Republican president. One of them is for state legislatures to call for a constitutional convention that could rewrite countless sections of the Constitution with no publicly elected members participating. The courts? Elected officials?
Dictators have no need for courts and many of the other governmental functions safeguarded in our Constitution. Trump has basically laid out his game plan for all to see. For years he has predictably thrown those whom he no longer needs under the bus.
To protect their lifetime seats the nine president-nominated and Senate-confirmed justices need only let the Colorado Supreme Court’s removal of Trump’s name from the state ballot remain in place. Trump would have no further court to which he might appeal. With other states following Colorado’s lead, it is highly unlikely Trump could garner sufficient Electoral College votes for the office he seeks. That office is his only protection from incarceration should he be found guilty in any federal trial in which he stupidly got himself involved.
Trump said that he would abide by the ruling of the court, three of whose members were appointed by him.
Ten people. One monumental outcome for our nation.
