Letter: Investments in community can be good for everyone

Editor:

I’m writing in response to (“Berks tax increase hurts county’s senior citizens,” Reading Eagle, Dec. 22).

State Sen. Chris Gephard sent out an email pointing out that $900 million had been moved into Pennsylvani’s Rainy Day Fund. He wrote, “The fund, which exceeds $6.1 billion, provides protection from economic downturns and other unforeseen circumstances. It shields Pennsylvanians from being subjected to a tax increase at a time they would already be struggling financially.”

As we just came out of a pandemic and the government-issued emergency stimulus checks, I believe we are still hurting financially, and $900 million seems to be a blessing for the state.

I believe that if we are honest and God-fearing citizens, God will bless us with enough money left over to build a contemporary Berks prison with state-of-the-art mental health accommodations.

Let’s take time to pray about a tax increase in Berks. We don’t want a situation where we lose our wisest (seniors) citizens.
