Letter: Kutztown should keep equity policy in place

Editor:

The Kutztown School Board plans to rescind the district’s equity policy tonight. I hope readers will take a look at the YouTube video of Monday’s meeting and will consider heading to the high school library tonight at 7.

Newly elected members are not offering evidence on why the policy should be rescinded. Why are there issues with a policy designed to facilitate educational equity for all; promptly identify and address barriers that cause achievement and/or opportunity gaps for students; develop meaningful relationships with and among students, staff and families; provide curriculum, instruction and assessment that is adaptive as well as responsive to — and reflective of — the student learners; make available resources and supports necessary for each student to succeed; establish high expectations for each student, with all students meeting academic expectations and their full potential; and create a welcoming and safe school environment? Perhaps they will offer concrete reasoning before rescinding.
