Letter: School district was right to keep away from group

Editor:

In regards to “Patriots mischaracterized at Wilson school meeting,” Reading Eagle, Dec. 28), the Berks County Patriots sponsored a bus trip to the so-called “Stop the Steal” rally in our nation’s capital on Nov. 14, 2020. This rally was motivated by supporters of then-President Donald Trump who believe Joe Biden did not win the last presidential election fair and square.

Of course, a few short weeks later another group descended on our nation’s capital like locusts and assaulted police officers, damaged property and threatened members of Congress with execution, all in an attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power and overthrow an election by force – a coup d’etat attempt, in other words.

Let’s make no mistake, the Berks County Patriots is indeed an extremist organization, and as the parent of a Wilson graduate, I am happy the Wilson School District chose to disassociate from that group. I encourage every other public school district in Berks to do the same.
