From Literacy Council of Reading-Berks
The Literacy Council of Reading-Berks is relocating its main office from 35 S. Dwight Street in West Lawn to Tec Centro Berks at 450 S. 6th Street in Reading, a move aimed at expanding community impact while ensuring long-term organizational sustainability.
The relocation, expected to take place in January 2026 — or sooner if the current property is sold ahead of schedule — marks a strategic partnership with Tec Centro Berks, a nonprofit organization dedicated to entrepreneurship, workforce development, and community revitalization in the heart of Reading. An official relocation date will be announced once it is confirmed.
While the Literacy Council’s headquarters will shift to a new address, its multi-site programming throughout Berks County will remain fully intact and continue as scheduled. Services currently offered at locations including West Lawn United Methodist Church, Wilson Southern Middle School, Governor Mifflin High School, Muhlenberg Junior High School, Trinity Lutheran Church, Christ Episcopal Church, and the Reading School District Welcome Center will not be affected.
“This is a strategic move that allows us to better serve our community while being mindful of our fiscal responsibilities,” Ryan Breisch, Executive Director of The Literacy Council, wrote in a letter announcing the move. “By co-locating with a longstanding partner, we can share resources, reduce operational costs, and continue focusing on what matters most — our mission.”
In addition to strengthening community partnerships, the move reflects the Council’s commitment to responsible financial stewardship. Funds from the eventual sale of the Dwight Street property will be reinvested into the organization to support both immediate needs and future growth initiatives.
Breisch stated in the announcement, “This move is part of our forward-thinking approach to adapt and thrive in an evolving educational landscape.”
The Literacy Council emphasized that this relocation is not a merger, but a collaboration. The organization will retain its independent mission and identity while benefiting from a closer physical alignment with Tec Centro Berks, with whom it has partnered since Tec Centro’s founding in 2018.
“This co-location enhances our ability to serve Berks County through shared vision and complementary services in education and workforce development,” Breisch stated.
