A 20-year-old West Reading man was arrested following a hit-and-run crash last week in Penn Township that seriously injured another driver, state police said Tuesday.
Jonas M. Rodriguez II, whose street address wasn’t provided, was charged by troopers from the Reading station on Sept. 1, when the crash occurred, with causing an accident involving injury while not licensed, careless driving causing serious bodily injury, failing to stop and give information or render aid and related counts.
He remained free to await a hearing following arraignment before District Judge Andrea Book.
According to investigators:
Rodriguez was southbound on Shartlesville Road about 5:40 a.m. when he tried to pass a vehicle in front of his car. His collided head-on with a northbound car driven by Jessica Robison, 30, of Bernville.
Robison was taken by Western Berks Ambulance to Reading Hospital for serious, unspecified injuries. Information on her medical condition was unavailable Tuesday.
Rodriguez left the scene of the crash on foot before emergency responders arrived. He was later arrested, but information on how he was taken into custody was unavailable.
Both vehicles were severely damaged.
